Well, it’s that time of the week where I round up my favourites from the huge range of things to do in Essex this weekend.
I’m personally looking forward to a weekend of spontaneity. For once, I have managed to get through a big to-do list which leaves this weekend free for fun. I’m starting that tonight with a huge pizza and ice-cream! I may even indulge in some more ice-cream over the weekend. it is summer after all and plenty of time to work off those calories whilst out and about. Millie will be after some large dog walks!

Kidz Fest
Featured in our best kids festivals in Essex blog, One of the only kids festivals in Essex that offers the opportunity to camp at the showground (pitch for £10).
The Kidz Fest also takes on the form of a village with themed areas hosting interactive activities and performances throughout the day. You’ll even find a Story Lane, where fairytales come to life or if you prefer a bit of adventure head to Jungle Drive to explore the wilderness.
You’ll find all of the normal entertainment on site including live music, face painting, and soft play, making it a great day out for kids of all ages.

Wrabfest 2016, near Manningtree
In August 2015 Wrabness hosted the very first WrabFest. A joyful occasion where villagers and visitors came together to enjoy a day of musical entertainment and a traditional Country Feté. 2016 promises to be just as much food with food, bands, children’s entertainment and school sports day favourites.

Custom/Classic Car & Bike Show Roadzsta 4 at Weeley
Another weekend with lots of car shows featured. This one promises to be a great family day out with

RHS Flower Show
The well-established Hyde Hall Flower Show, a must for gardeners of all abilities. Running through until Sunday, with more than 60 stalls to browse. There will be plenty of experts on hand this is the perfect opportunity to buy new plants for your garden. Live music, talks, demonstrations and floral art will also feature with an all new artist’s pavilion featuring pieces not to be missed.

Toot Hill Show
The 63rd annual Toot Hill Show, promises to be a popular one as the sun shines this weekend. A quintessential country show with a dog show, bird of prey displays, horticultural marquee, Morris dancers and a classic car show rolled into one.
You’ll even meet Peter Rabbit and friends.

Art and Craft Show at Ingatestone Hall
The Guild of Essex Craftsmen’s annual exhibition of work with brush and pen. Demonstrations and works for sale.
Entrance is included in the normal Hall entrance charges.

East Mersea Village Fete
Taking place in the beautiful gardens of the historic East Mersea Hall, the house is surrounded by a thousand-year-old moat and stands beside East Mersea’s stunning medieval church.
Featuring Falconry displays, food, bands, stalls and a wide variety of side shows. Lots of entertainment for al the family with free parking.
There will be an Art Show running across both Saturday and Sunday, along with The Flower Festival.

Mayors Cream Tea Party at Porters, Southend
An event

on behalf of the amazing Havens Hospice. Tickets include a cream tea, meeting the mayor, a tour of the mayor’s parlour, live music from the talented Annie Humphrey. There will be a raffle available on the day.

Mini Beast Hunt at The Naze Education and Visitor CentreHead along to the Naze to have a go at mini-beast hunting. See what creatures creep and crawl in the habitats on top of the cliff. Donation £4 per child, children must be accompanied. Booking essential.

Sandford Mill Big Weekend at Sanford Mill, Chelmsford

Pirate Puppets at Fingringhoe Wick Visitor Centre
Make some sea-going characters for the pirate ship and learn a pirate song! Children must be accompanied.

Gullivers Travels at Hedingham Castle
The performance will take place in the open air in front of the stunning Castle. Join Lemuel Gulliver on a fantastical and hilarious voyage into the unknown. A brand new, adventurous and delightfully innovative adaptation of Jonathan Swift’s classic satirical story loved by adults and children alike.
Pack up some low camping chairs and picnics. Hot, cold and alcoholic drinks will be available. Note whilst entrance is from 5pm, tickets allow access to the grounds and castle throughout the day.
