It’s been one of those weeks where I’m still loving the early evening light those beautiful rainbows after a big downpour.  But I’m also conscious that Autumn isn’t too far off and so any chance I have, I’m heading outdoors to enjoy that light.  With several weeks left of the school holidays, what better excuse do you need to cram in even more days out with the kids?  And well, we all know a day out means there’s a fighting chance that they’ll be in bed early.  Errrrr.. ok, I’m not promising they will!!!

Six Weeks of Summer at Barleylands: Treasure Hunters – Barleylands, Farm Park

“Take part in our family self-led treasure hunt, use your map and compass, solve the clues to find Old Gold Creek and pan for gold”.  Both indoor and outdoor activities are available throughout the week.

Belhus Woods Community Fun Day – Belhus Woods Country Park, South Ockendon

We have an amazing turn out of living history displays, depicting military life from many periods and nationalities. These historical re-enactors go to massive lengths to represent living history as accurately and authentically as possible and are always happy to answer your questions or demonstrate equipment so don’t be afraid to ask! This is an almost unique opportunity to see how the soldiers of different nationalities and time periods lived and to get close to the weapons, equipment and atmosphere of the time.”

Family Medieval Weekend – Cressing Temple, Witham Road, Braintree

Learn about life in the past as you interact with a variety of interesting characters.  Try on some armour. Admire the delicate work of the embroiderer and the skill of the spoon carver. Clacton Airshow – Clacton Seafront

Essex Outdoor Cinema: Harry Potter and the Philsospher’s Stone – Capel Manor College, Enfield

Jousting with Destrier – Hedingham Castle

“Real chivalry returns to Hedingham as the Knights of Destrier, in full metal armour, compete for glory! Jousting with Destrier is as close to the real thing as it gets, in a truly authentic setting! They test their skill in the Hunting Games, they arm themselves, they fight! Surrounding the arena will be craft stalls, a wide range of fabulous food and a host of entertainment!”
