Looking for a Beach Hut for Hire in Essex?
For the second year running, a Millie’s Beach Hut has featured as a Top Ten Towergate Beach Hut of the Year and whilst it has been hard work, I now know the most important qualities a great beach hut should have. I’ve visited, rented, googled, purchased, surveyed our guests and worked with some of the best beach huts for hire in Essex.
With Essex boasting miles of coastline and award winning beaches, it’s not surprising that there is a fantastic range of beach huts for hire for the day or in some cases by the week. Whilst you can’t always guarantee the British weather, the smallest of considerations whether that be location or position of the hut itself and even the contents of a beach hut can really make a difference to your day. If you’ve found the time to co-ordinate diaries and book far enough in advance, you want to ensure that your day out is memorable and not for the wrong reasons.
Increasingly over the last year, I’ve found myself making recommendations based on our own research (and visits!) across Essex. More often than not this happens when our own beach huts for hire have been fully booked but on the very odd occasion, as I’ve gotten to know a guests requirements, it’s clear that I could point them to another beach hut much more suited to their needs. Whether it’s one of the 5 reasons not to hire from us that we covered on our previous blog or location of our beach huts, I’d personally rather recommend another beach hut hire that meets your needs than for you to be disappointed with our own.
If you are just setting out on your journey to find a Beach Hut for Hire, do be quick to secure summer dates with popular huts/dates selling out 12 months in advance. Whilst you don’t want to be disappointed, do take your time to read through all of your options, grab a glass of wine, read reviews and book as far forward as you can to secure your date.
Whatever option or style you are looking for, sit back and devour. These really are the Best Beach Huts to hire in Essex.

I’m a massive fan of Anna’s style (I’ve found myself quizzing her on beach hut ovens/grills in the past – perfect for a fry up, beans on toast or a pasta dish!) and adore her beach hut.
Whilst Dovercourt can sometimes be overlooked as a location – I think Anna’s hut is an amazing find and great value, set on the front row of Dovercourt beach. This beautiful beach hut has everything you could want for a relaxing day at the seaside and beautifully decorated with lots of vintage and kitsch items. It is situated opposite the ‘dogs welcome’ part of the beach and backs onto the large playing field which is perfect for all sorts of fun and games including kite flying. The toilet block and FREE car park are just a 3 mins walk away and a fresh water tap is just round the back.
On the other side of the playing field, there is a skate park, playground, roller skating rink, pitch and putt and croquet lawn, a small games arcade, an indoor swimming pool, cafes and an excellent fish and chip shop. On certain days of the week, a vintage Citroen van parks up selling coffees, teas, crepes etc.
Anna has also just won Towergate’s 2016 Beach Hut of the Year – huge congratulations and I think we can all agree that her recent exterior makeover is gorgeous!
I will have to admit an element of bias here by listing Julie and Kirk’s beach hut for hire daily as we started our beach hut life as neighbours! I have loved discussing each of our huts vision and share many of the same values as these two owners who are continually developing and increasing the huge list of services/add-ons that you can book alongside their beach hut hire. Their current offerings include spa treatments, continental breakfasts, chunky picnics, afternoon teas, your own chef for the day or even psychic readings. You can really blow your budget and make a memorable day for yourself or that special someone.
The beach at Walton-on-the-Naze itself is dog-friendly all year round with no restrictions towards Frinton and Boutique Beach Huts do accept dogs (n.b subject to confirmation at the time of booking).
Shortlisted in the 2015 Towergate Beach Hut of the Year competition, this duo knows how to decorate and exceed their guest’s expectations. Their new beach hut for hire “The Glasshouse” opened in 2016 with fantastic views of over Walton-on-the-Naze and I’m a tad jealous of their large decking area. If you are looking for a unique beach hut – it will definitely fit the bill!
Winner of Towergate’s 2015 Beach Hut of the Year (for their beach hut Betty), Jayne and Jane offer several beach huts for hire by the day (or longer). Their huts are beautifully styled and you’ll spot some of my own favourite designers including Emma Bridgewater in each hut.
With many Essex beaches featuring a sea wall, West Mersea is one of the few beaches where you will find beach huts directly on the beach. You can open up, pull out the deckchair and have sand between your toes without moving away from the beach hut.
Mersea Island itself is renowned for its Native Oysters and boasts a thriving fishing port, winding creeks, nature reserves and excellent sailing.
Offering a meet and greet service for each booking, you can also make your visit even more special by ordering a cream tea. These huts sell out months in advance – book early! (p.s my personal favourite is Bertie, pictured below, with his bold red, white and blue decor and position slightly further from away from the main steps to the beach.
Less well known than it’s neighbour Betty (from the Little Beach Hut Company above ), I hired this lovely hut twice in 2014 as we researched locations for our own purchases.
Perfectly located just one beach hut away from the Two Sugar’s Cafe, and stairs from the main car park. Both taps and toilets are also close by.
The beach hut itself is very well maintained, clean and with all necessary contents (tea, coffee, deckchairs, windbreaks etc etc etc). Whilst the hut feels a little simpler in terms of decor compared to other beach hut hires, we had two fantastic days and couldn’t have asked for anything more. We even had a fab game of rounders as the sun went down due to a great bucket of beach games and toys.
We had planned to take a trip down to The Company Shed for some seafood but were having too much fun – I’d recommend squeezing this in on your visit.
Another overlooked location in Essex where you’ll find the beach hut directly in front of the paddling pool with children’s play park behind the hut.
With its simple decor, you may be surprised that I’ve chosen this as one of my best beach huts for hire in Essex. However, whilst simple in style, it is in a stunning location and a very well equipped beach hut.
With one of the lowest rental price per day (£25 – all year round), the beach hut is great value and this shows in the reviews on their page. A great option if you looking for a shorter travel time from South Essex.
Featured in Homes by the Sea, The Shack is a lot more than a beach hut for hire. Yes I know, I’m cheating slightly but I couldn’t exclude this gorgeous home from our list. This is a unique beach hut and the only one in our list where you can stay overnight with facilities. It is in effect a small bungalow, sitting on stilts over the tidal river Blackwater. You access the bungalow by walking along a concrete seawall footpath. With a south facing sea view balcony and sitting over the water when the tide is in, you’ll have a great view!
The balcony is sheltered yet open, so even in the winter if the sun is out it is still warm. Inside it has 2 double bedrooms both with ensuite shower, eco toilet and Freeview TV. The sitting room has a wood burner, 2 comfy fireside chairs, a settee, Freeview tv, radio, books. The dining area has a solid wood dining table. The kitchen comes with hob, oven, cafeteria, kettle, toaster, combination microwave and butler sink, with dual aspect windows and stunning views.
Unfortunately, no pets are allowed. However, the shack is available for block stays over weekends, weeks or midweek breaks.
