Looking for Things to Do in Essex in June (2017)? Ideas for Days out with the Kids

It’s the last day of half term and I hope you’ve had some fab days out with the kids.  Whatever you have been up to throughout the holidays, I think you deserve a hooray! Are you having that celebratory glass of vino to avoid those Sunday night blues? Whenever I come back from holiday, I like to plan the next one to help ease the back to work (or school) pain so why not enjoy that glass of vino while diving into this months things to do in Essex.

Ready to plan your next day out now? I’m hoping it’s going to be a hot June and well next weekend is only five days way.  Plenty of time to schedule in one of our 16 ideas for days out with the kids below!

Saturday 10 June – Racing starts from 8.15 am

Rowhedge Regatta – Rowhedge High Street, Rowhedge, Colchester. CO5 7EN

An action packed day for all the family: Vintage rides and games and Fancy Dress.  You’ll also find lots of stalls with hand crafted gifts and treats.

There will also be live entertainment throughout the day and into the evening showcasing local talent!

Saturday 10 June – 3 pm

Great Expectations – Rayleigh Mount, Rayleigh.

This production forms the basis of our open air season and is a full length play delivered by a cast of four. As with A Christmas Carol, Michael Whitmore’s adaptation is taken straight from the original text and uses much of Dickens’ own dialogue throughout, making it a perfect resource to support study of the text at GCSE.

Bring blankets, picnics and low-backed chairs.  Performance runs for 1 hour 45 minutes.

Days Out with Thomas – Colne Valley Railway, Castle Headingham.

Join the Colne Valley Railway as they welcome Thomas for a day of family fun. A ticket for Day Out With Thomas includes the train ride with Thomas as well as a variety of Thomas & Friends™ themed entertainment. Guests will also have the opportunity to meet The Fat Controller from the Island of Sodor.

Paws in the Park – The Wick Country Park, Tresco Way, Wickford

A fun dog show, including an arena display by the Essex Flyball Team. You’ll find lots of dog / pet related side-stalls and refreshments too!

Sunday 11 June – 9 am onwards

Mersea Motor Madness  – Essex Outdoors, Rewsalls Lane, East Mersea.

At £10 per car, Mersea Motor Madness Car Rally promises to be a great day out with trade stands, kids play area and licenced bar too.

There will be live music from Ed Gasket and The Rockers with awards for best car. No pre-booking required.

Sunday 11 June – 12 noon to 4 pm

Rayleigh Trinity Fair Day Out – Rayleigh Town Centre

In 2017 Rayleigh Trinity Fair is being brought back by Haddon Events and Rayleigh Town Council.

The High Street will be closed to traffic on this day and will be filled with stalls, live music on stage, dancing and other entertainment.  This is an event for the whole Community to come and enjoy.  Entry to the event is free for everybody all day.

Saturday 17 June – 12 noon to 4 pm

Bubble Rush 2017 – Highwoods Country Park, Colchester

This isn’t like your normal sponsored fun run, this run features a 5k course with four Bubble Stations along the route where our cannons pump out coloured bubbles.  Participants of all ages and all abilities can take part, you can run, jog, walk or toddle through the foam …even dance if you want to!

All Saints’ Medieval Fete – Feeringbury Manor, Coggeshall Road, Feering

Performances by Thameside Mummers, medieval archery, falconry and a champagne draw.   Come dressed up and make or buy medieval headdresses, swords and shields.

Fancy dress competition and lots of craft demonstrations.

Young Children’s Festival – Castle Park, Colchester

Clash of the Knights Triathlon – Hedingham Castle

One of Hedingham Castles’ most popular events of the year with teams trying to knock the crests from opponents’ helmets.

Surrounding the castle will be a living history camp along with falconry displays and archery too.    A great day out with kids in Essex!

Blackwater Country Show – Chigborough Road, Heybridge, Maldon

Eeek. It’s that time for one of the best country shows in Essex!   In a picturesque setting with two stunning lakes, its a great day out with all the family.

Victorian Steam Weekend – Epping Ongar Railway, Station Road, Ongar

Mr David Oxley brings the Palace of Curiosities back to the Epping Ongar Railway – come to marvel at the Marcus Island Mermaid and other delights from around the world. Tudor Midsummer – Kentwell Hall, Long Melford

More than 200 Tudors (up to 400 at weekends) at any one time creating the dress, speech, food, drink, music, dance, crafts, activities, pleasures and way of life of the chosen year. Visitors feel they have been transported back to a whole 16th C. community in which everyone is dependant upon each other. This is how life actually was not just a series of demonstrations.

Aimed exclusively at pre-school children, this is a sell out event and one not to be missed!
